Morocco and the UK have a long-standing friendship spanning over 800 years, with the first trade treaty signed in Fez over 300 years ago.  An important part of this partnership is the history of our monarchies and the special relationship between the two Royal families.

Her late Majesty Queen Elisabeth II visited Morocco in 1980 before His late Majesty King Hassan ll‘s four-day state visit to the UK in 1987. The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were welcomed in Morocco as personal guests to His Majesty King Mohammed VI in 2011. More recently, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent three days in Morocco in 2019, learning about the work carried out by the Moroccan Government and NGOs to promote girls’ education and empower young people.

The Morocco-UK relations are deeply rooted in history. In fact, King John of England dispatched the country’s first Ambassador to Morocco. Both countries also signed their first trade treaty over 300 years ago, in 1721, in Fez. This treaty was ahead of its time as it allowed the movement of people, goods and ideas between two nations of different beliefs, customs, languages and norms.
